Hearts and art
and other things to be grateful for
Valentine’s Day. I do try to embrace it, in my own way. I have a big collection of hearts of stone. But I ceased having any heartfelt emotional connection to the day years ago. When I did, it was like letting go of a blue balloon into a blue sky. I watched it float away and merge with the clouds and disappear. Which is not to say I’m a cynic. I celebrate Galentine’s Day as I have so many wonderful and creative women in my life, and for that I’m truly grateful.
I’ve collected heart rocks all my adult life, since I first started finding them in 1982 on the rocky beaches of Mt. Desert Island. They show up like the four leaf clovers that have been a constant for me since I was a child.
This Valentine’s Day is different from others— I’m celebrating something big and hearty! (pun intended♥️) —the opening of my solo retrospective exhibition, The HeART of the Matter. It just happens to fall on Valentine’s Day weekend. (No, I did not plan the date. Coincidence, like so many other things in my life.)

Heart rocks have played an important role in my art work over the years, so there’s that.
My catalogue is available for $20 + $7 s/h — take a look here. You can reply to this email or message me to let me know if you’d like one!
If you happen to be in lil’ ole Rhode Island on Sunday, Feb. 15 and feel so inclined, please come to my opening at the Providence Art Club, 2-4 pm. The show will continue through Mar. 5. Gallery hours are 12-4, Mon. through Sat.
And here’s the biggest one of all. I couldn’t bring it home, but my darling Theo (RIP dear old boy) posed on it for a photo years ago.
I’m grateful for heart rocks. What about you? Happy Valentines’ Day, however you celebrate it.
My posts are always free, no paywall! But if you like what I’m up to and want to support my journey here, you can become a paid subscriber for only $30/year, and I would be honored and so grateful.

Congratulations on your show!
Congrats on the exhibition! Love your art and the heart rocks. I have collected them for about 10 years now and it's always a thrill to find another one.
