I do love that Anne Lamott book AND as I have grown older, I have become really interested in birds myself. I do not have a book and I am not in a birding club but within my own back garden I have clocked over 120 different species using the Merlin app on my phone which I adore.
(Think we have maybe discussed this here before lol?)
Birding is seen as such an "old lady" pastime but who cares?? Also enjoying Amy Tan's non-fiction bird book with her own illustrations - it's a great read and so beautiful.
This was a most uplifting post, Karen! Keep puzzling - and writing!
Hello dear Sue! Yes, I have Merlin and love it, and I have Amy Tan's stunning book (what incredible paintings!) Birding is no longer an old lady pastime, though both my grandparents become serious birders when they were older. But now just look at all the [hip young] professional bird photographers on Instagram. It's uplifting 🪽😊
I love this post! My earliest memory of doing a large puzzle(with missing bits) was a very wet October weekend as a newly wed in a damp cold cottage when my son was conceived…no TV, no digital phones, no magazines, just a sad old puzzle with missing bits .. you can work out the rest 🤣
I love puzzles. Typically the 1000 piece ones. I’ve got 4 on order now, from Pomegranate. There’s something very satisfying about them. I think I’ve been doing them since I was 11 or so.
😳 Wow ! I’ve never had the time nor inclination to go for the big ones( as stated) 500 is just right for my attention span. I know that Pomegranate makes great puzzles !
I've never been one to enjoy puzzles, but I do love birds. And I've been working on my memoir since forever as well. It keeps me occupied. Love your timer. Mine has a delay switch in her old age and snores behind my writing chair for hours after breakfast.
Never ever too late for anything creative, Karen! But you know that... Just keep reassuring that part that doesn't get it. It's a much younger part anyway. Remember how old these numbers sounded to us back then? Yup. You got this. And wow. Thanks for permission to buy a really cool puzzle! I do like those thrift store finds, and now this frugal part of me is rolling her eyes... I'll let you know which part wins.
Thrift store puzzles are fine but don't have the gravitas or spark of a beautiful well-crafted one! You are right about needing to reassure the part of me that sows doubt about this big life project. I'll let you know which part wins! 😁
Thank you for the mention! Puzzling is a great way to focus on something while your subconscious percolates. I would enjoy puzzles, but I have a cat who would enjoy knocking the pieces around even more 😏 Love all those 🍀! (Also, you’re never too old to write memoir!)
Thank you for the follow, Sarah! and thanks also for the support. I'm currently deep into a 6 month memoir intensive with Brooke Warner and Linda Joy Myers. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll be a published author!

Oooo, any Insta recommendations? Please do share when you have a min!
We had an actual Merlin in the yard last week! (According to Merlin that is, lol!)
xo

Thank you, Janine...haha great story and sweet memory!
Slowly - piece by piece...

🐕😊 We are in similar modes, Dawn. So many of us together in the memoir basket.

Good! I'm going to hold you to that. First, break it down so it's not "this big life project." I think all your parts will win!
